Did you know? Most of our plastic waste isn’t recycled – it’s burned. In 2023 it was 61 %, and for plastic from households it was around two thirds (Source: German Environment Agency, reference year 2023). That’s because all sorts of different plastics end up mixed together in the bin, and whatever can’t be properly separated goes into the incinerator.

That’s exactly where our Special Edition comes in. The outer fabric is made of Ultramid® Ccycled® – a material for which mixed plastic waste is broken down into its smallest building blocks. The waste was collected and processed in Europe. What comes out of it is a recycled raw material for producing new material – one that uses no new crude oil.

To be precise: at the start of the production chain, 100 % of the fossil raw materials – meaning crude oil – are replaced by raw materials made from recycled plastic waste. Because everything runs together in the large production plants, nobody can say how many molecules of the recycled raw material end up in this particular fabric. That’s why the required quantity of raw material is allocated to the material using the mass balance approach in line with ISCC PLUS. This is verified by independent auditors.

RECYCLING INNOVATION
Here, using waste-based raw materials, we’re creating a backpack fabric that’s as good as new—it’s durable and immediately catches the eye. We’re among the first in the education sector to use this innovative fabric.
